Coalition launched to support process to update worker’s comp system in Wisconsin

Effort includes employers, unions, employees, trade associations and chambers

MADISON– At Thursday’s public hearing of the Wisconsin Worker’s Compensation Advisory Council, two of the council’s members - Wisconsin labor leader Stephanie Bloomingdale, President of the AFL-CIO of Wisconsin, and Wisconsin Manufactures & Commerce’s appointee James Buchen both announced their involvement in the Worker’s Comp Works coalition.

The coalition represents an incredibly diverse group of individuals, employers, trade associations and policy makers working to protect Wisconsin’s workers compensation system. The coalition’s members represent more than 5,000 Wisconsin employers and more than 750,000 workers in the state.

“It’s fair to acknowledge that there are members of the coalition that would like to see changes in the worker’s comp system, but they all agree that going through the advisory council and the agreed upon bill process is the way to make that happen,” said spokesperson Josh Morby.

With more than 30 new members of legislature set to take office in January, the coalition is focused on educating employers, policy makers and influencers about the worker’s comp system, what it is, how it came about, how it works, and why the system in place provides balance and a fair process to introduce change.
